Education and professional training in Transportation at UC Berkeley The Institute does not offer courses for credit, but it provides research fellowships, grants and teaching and research jobs for transportation graduate students through projects conducted by its affiliated faculty. The disciplines they represent include civil engineering, city and regional planning, as well as industrial engineering and operations research, computer science, energy, policy, economics, mechanical engineering, and public health. Graduate degrees are offered by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering's Transportation Engineering Program and through a transportation concentration in the Department of City and Regional Planning. The two departments also offer a Concurrent Master of Science/Master of City and Regional Planning in transportation. Additionally, the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research sponsors a Certificate in Logistics with civil engineering. Professional training is offered by the Institute's Technology Transfer Program through short courses, workshops and conferences held in person and online. Some are free or subsidized for public agency employees. Research Fellowships, Grants and Teaching Research Jobs University of California Transportation Center Dissertation Grants of $15,000 per academic year are available to transportation students who have advanced to Ph.D. candidacy to support their doctoral research. Graduate Student Researcher Jobs and Instructorships are available for many of our students, usually at the start of each semester. Researchers can earn up to $22,000 per year, and jobs often qualify students for full or partial remission of fees.
