    The national organization representing 58 technical assistance programs that provide transportation expertise to communities and transportation agencies around the country presented ITS Assistant Director Laura Melendy with its annual award in Washington, D.C. in late January.

    Former ITS Director Adib Kanafani received the W.N. Carey, Jr., Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding service to both transportation research and the Transportation Research Board at a luncheon held in Washington, D.C. on January 25. Among his many accomplishments, he was cited for major contributions to transportation systems, transportation engineering, airport planning and design, and air transport economics.

    The University of California Transportation Center (UCTC) has received a $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation and a matching amount from California's Department of Transportation to oversee a new research consortium of five other UC and four Cal State University campuses.
