UCTC Student Conference

uctc main hall12th Annual UCTC Student Research Conference

The 2006 University of California Transportation Center (UCTC) student research conference was hosted by the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Berkeley Feb. 10-11, 2006.

Organized by students whose work is supported by UCTC grants, it draws transportation graduate students from around California, including the four UC campuses with transportation programs (Berkeley, Davis, Irvine, Los Angeles and Riverside) and the University of Southern California.

Presenting the Mel Webber Lecture was Sir Peter Hall, Bartlett Professor of Planning and Regeneration at University College London. He told transportation graduate students and faculty that bus rapid transit could be a significant help in solving some of America’s congestion and transportation problems if it were pursued with more energy and imagination. (Go to coverage of Hall's speech.)

Student presentations were made in parallel tracks.

  • They included talks on surveys of vehicle purchasing preferences in Shanghai and attitudes toward the environment in Sacramento.
  • An additional nine students presented their work in addresses to their peers. (List of speakers.)
  • There were also three poster sessions. (PDF of list of presenters.)
