On March 1, Robert Cervero, professor of city and regional planning, officially succeeded Elizabeth Deakin, a professor of city and regional planning and urban design, as director of the University of California Transportation Center (UCTC).

ITS Director Samer Madanat noted: "Robert Cervero's background and distinguished reputation will position him well to guide the center during the coming years. I look forward to UCTC's continued success, and thank Elizabeth Deakin for her outstanding service at the center's helm for the past 10 years."

UCTC was established in 1987 as the Federal Region IX University Transportation Center (UTC) and as the statewide UTC for California. It is a multi-campus research unit. It is supported in equal parts by the United States Department of Transportation and the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans). UCTC is administered by ITS.
