Wolfgang Homburger, Institute of Transportation Studies Lecturer Emeritus, received the Institute of Transportation Engineers' Burton W. Marsh Distinguished Service Award in a ceremony held last month in Philadelphia. The award is given annually to an individual who has "contributed to the advancement of the Institute of Transportation Engineers over a period of years in an outstanding fashion."

Homburger has served as a lecturer, research engineer, acting director and assistant director of ITS during more than 35 years at UC Berkeley. He has written or edited a number of transportation textbooks, including the Fundamentals of Traffic Engineering (now in its 15th edition), Introduction to Transportation Engineering, Transportation and Traffic Engineering Handbook, and Residential Street Design and Traffic Control.

In 1966, the Institute of Transportation Engineers International Board elected Homburger as ITE's 50th Honorary Member, its highest recognition of notable and outstanding professional achievement.

In acknowledging his contributions and achievements, the board noted that Homburger "has helped to prepare hundreds of transportation professionals for careers in transportation," and has helped identify and address emerging issues in the field for ITE's leadership.
