Professor Martin Wachs, director of the Institute of Transportation Studies, has been honored by the National Academies with the newly created title of National Associate.

The National Academies is comprised of the National Academy of Sciences, the National Academy of Engineering, the Institute of Medicine and the National Research Council. Wachs was awarded the lifetime honor of Associate in recognition of his extraordinary service to the National Academies.

According to the report from the College of Engineering News Highlights, “Many individuals serve pro bono publico on committees of the National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine. The work of the National Academies in advising government and the public on matters of science, technology and health would not be possible without these contributions.”
