Congratulations to Partners for Advanced Transportation Technology’s (PATH) Connected Corridors and California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) who earned an Honorable Mention from Amazon Web Services (AWS) 2017 City on a Cloud Innovation Challenge!

“The PATH Connected Corridors program is working with Caltrans to develop corridor wide transportation management solutions,” says Joe Butler, PATH’s Connected Corridors Program Manager. “The future is in the cloud and we are designing our systems to enable Caltrans to leverage the scalability, shared access and reduced maintenance costs associated with cloud applications. Amazon has been an excellent supportive partner in helping us achieve this goal.”

Connected Corridors was among 13 finalists in the "Best Practices (Large)" category in the international competition: https://aws.amazon.com/stateandlocal/cityonacloud/2017winners/

The award includes a $5,000 credit to PATH’s AWS account, where the Connected Corridors cloud services, under development, are hosted.

“This new way of working has allowed the PATH team to focus on core program deliverables, and we've enjoyed working ever more closely with our Caltrans IT colleagues throughout the process,” says Greg Merritt, PATH Connected Corridors technology transfer coordinator. “We appreciate this recognition and support from Amazon as we move towards pilot deployment.”

AWS helps local and regional governments, schools, and districts innovate by simplifying IT workloads that they struggle with and depend on every day, such as Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Content Management Systems (CMS), Open Data portals, teaching and learning solutions, and more. All of these applications run on AWS and make it easier for governments and schools to deliver services to their citizens and students.

Through the City on a Cloud Innovation Challenge, Amazon recognizes local and regional governments, and private and public schools and districts as hubs of innovation in three categories: Best Practices, Partners in Innovation, and Dream Big. Winners received AWS promotional credits to start or continue their projects.
