Allie Thomas Wins WTS Award

City and Regional Planning Ph.D. student Allie Thomas has received the 2010 Elaine Dezenski Legacy Scholarship through the Women's Transportation Seminar for her work on global transportation challenges. The $5,000 award takes the name of the current WTS International president, and is given to an outstanding young woman graduate student who demonstrates a specific interest in advancing transportation innovation in the international arena.

Thomas is currently researching how Chinese urban planners are dealing with the growing car population in that country, focusing on second-tier cities with populations over three million. She's examining parking policies, new town developments, and large-scale residential developments. Thomas' research was featured in the 2007-2008 winter issue of the SafeTREC (formerly Traffic Safety Center) newsletter.
