Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels Project October 2007: "Biofuels: Linking Support to Performance," summary and conclusions from the Joint Transport Research Centre's June 7-8 Round Table in Paris now available. A key finding: "Volumetric production targets for biofuels fail to provide incentives to contain costs, to avoid environmental damage or even to ensure greenhouse gas emission reductions are delivered. Carbon content targets for fuels, accompanied by certification, are a better alternative." The Roundtable on Sustainable Biofuels, announced today (Tues., April 17) in Lausanne, Switzerland, along with 21 founding members of its Steering Board, will draft a global standard methodology for determining the social and environmental impacts, as well as the greenhouse gas emissions efficiency, of specific technologies for producing and processing biofuels. The roundtable is hosted by the Energy Center at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic University at Lausanne.
